谈谈化工专业的英语翻译

化工英语的句子用词和表达都相对严谨，一个句子就是一个长句，对此我们应该压缩其主干，一一分解来翻译。只要准确、通俗、易于接受就可。
“Construction Equipment” means all plant, facilities, equipment, machinery, tools, apparatus, appliances or things of every kind required in or for the construction, completion and maintenance of the Works and which are to be provided by a Contractor, but does not include Materials, or other things intended to form or forming part of the Plant.
“施工设备”指本工程施工、竣工及维护所需的以及将由承包商提供的所有生产设备、设施、设备、机械、工具、仪器、装置或各种物品，但不包括材料或其他组成或将组成生产设备的物品。

4．陈述句子多：

化工英语里没有问句和感叹句之类，因为它主要是叙述一件事情，表达一种质朴平和的语气，力求真实、自然。
It shall be the Contractor’s responsibility to provide selected type of welding inspection. The Contractor shall furnish, at his own cost, all equipment required for weld inspection.
承包商负责提供焊接检验的类型，承包商还应自费提供焊接检验所需的所有设备。

二 化工英语汉英翻译的基本方法

1. 选用最合适的词汇意思
如：A variety of different levels of cable must be laid in the cable troughs within the defined areas, and the areas are shielded with partitions.
对于各种不同等级的电缆必须敷设在电缆槽的规定区域内，区域之间用隔板屏蔽。Shield一词一般是防护、隔离的意思，但是在电气专业里它用“屏蔽”表达更专业。

All the painting work are also in the scope of Subcontractor, it includes touch up，primer and finish painting.
分包商的工作包括所有的油漆工作，有补漆和底漆、面漆。Primer一词的常用意思是入门、第一，但这里是指底漆。

2．分析语法结构，了解修饰成分，分析各部分之间的逻辑关系，使字数较多、结构复杂的长句子变得短小、容易理解。
According to the site control station’s I/O meter, add an input signal from the input terminal of the control room’s cabinet terminal strip, and call out the screen display value of the point on the operating station that should be within the range of allowable accuracy. Connect an ampere meter on the output terminal strip of the cabinet to monitor output value, add an output signal from the manual output terminal of the operating station screen, and the meter readings should be within the range of allowable accuracy.
根据现场控制站的I/O表，从控制室机柜端子排的输入端子加输入信号，调出操作站上该点的画面显示值，应在允许的精度范围内。在机柜端子排的输出端子接一个电流表监视输出值，从操作站画面的手动输出方式加输出信号，电流表的读数应在允许的精度范围内。

3．由于此类文章中大量使用被动语态形式，所以要按中文的习惯正确排列语序，使其阅读起来通顺、上口。
Bottoming for tubing of rotating equipments shall be made by argon arc welding according to the requirements.
动设备配管时要求全部氩弧焊打底。

另外要记住一些常见的固定缩写：
如：FRP―Fiberglass-Reinforced Plastics 玻璃纤维增强塑料、玻璃钢、HDPE－ High-density polyethylene  高密度聚乙烯

最后，在翻译时注意忽略一些无实际意义的词，使译文更清楚、更简洁。

总之，翻译工作是一项长期积累的过程，如果平时加强对汉语的学习，用准确的语言把生僻而枯燥的科普词汇变得通俗易懂，再加上自己对化工专业领域的了解，那么专业翻译工作就会如虎添翼，我们就会在工作中更加从容应对。
